Money boxes, or piggy banks, have long been a symbol of saving and financial literacy, especially for children. Originating as early as the 15th century in Europe, early versions were made from clay and shaped like pigs, a symbol of prosperity.

Over time, they evolved into a variety of forms and materials, becoming both practical tools and cherished keepsakes.

ANZ embraced the idea, issuing its own branded money boxes in the mid-20th century.

ANZ has a rich history dating back to the 1800s. These money boxes and more antiquities can be found at the bank’s Gothic Branch on Melbourne’s Collins Street, as part of the ANZ Banking Museum.
