Our tax payments facility is a convenient way for businesses to make payments to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

  • You will need the EFT code, located immediately above the barcode on your payment form.
  • In some cases it may have been sent to you separately.

How do I make tax payments online? 

To make tax payments to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) online:

  • Go to the "Payments" menu
  • Select "Pay Australian Taxation Office" and follow the steps below.

Before making tax payments

  • The daily tax payment limit for business customers using ANZ Internet Banking is $100,000.
  • Daily tax payment limits for ANZ Internet Banking for Business customers is $1,000,000.

Step 1 - Select the account to transfer from

From: choose the ANZ account you wish to transfer funds from, using the drop down list, which lists all of your ANZ accounts that you have linked to ANZ Internet Banking.

Step 2 - Enter the payment details

  • EFT code: enter the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) code.
    • This can be located directly above the bar code on your tax statement or may be sent to you separately.
    • If you cannot locate your EFT code, contact the Australian Taxation Office.
  • Amount: enter the amount you wish to transfer, using a decimal point, if applicable.

Step 3 - Enter the transfer date and click "Continue"

  • Transfer date: choose the date on which you want the payments to be debited from your chosen account. To enter the date you can either:
    • select the calendar icon and click on the date required, or
    • enter the date in the format DD/MM/YYYY (e.g. 22/02/2010).

Click on the "Continue" button on the bottom right to proceed with the payment.

  • If you do not want to make a tax payment, click on the "Cancel" button on the bottom left.

Step 4 - Review your information

Review all your information to ensure it is correct. If information is incorrect it may result in an unsuccessful transfer or the wrong account receiving funds.

  • If you notice mistakes select "Back" and re-enter the correct details following steps 1-4.

Step 5 - Confirm your transfer

  • When you are happy with the information entered click "Confirm". This will complete the transfer and a confirmation message will display.

ANZ Internet Banking for Business Operators can click "Request authorisation" to submit the transfer to the relevant Authoriser or Administrator for approval.

Step 6 - View your lodgement receipt

  • Your lodgement receipt is displayed to confirm that the transfer has been submitted successfully
  • This does not mean the transfer will be processed successfully as that is dependent on the details you have entered being accurate and sufficient funds being in the account, which is funding the transfers
  • Please make a note of the receipt number and lodgement number for your own records.

Important notes

When you are making tax payments it is your responsibility to ensure the details you provide are correct.

  • We do not check payment details
  • If payment details are incorrect it may result in an unsuccessful transfer or the wrong account receiving the funds

  • If you are an ANZ Internet Banking for Business customer please call the ANZ Internet Banking for Business Helpdesk on 1800 269 242 (International callers: +61 3 8699 6906) between 8.00am and 6.00pm Melbourne time, Monday to Friday.
  • You must ensure that the EFT Code is correct or your payment may be unsuccessful or may be paid to an unintended account.

How long do tax payments take?

  • Tax payments submitted before 6.00pm Melbourne time on a bank business day are processed on that day, but if submitted after 6.00pm Melbourne time or on weekends or public holidays are processed on the next bank business day
  • The time that it takes for the Australian Taxation Office's account to be credited, will depend on the policy and systems of the Reserve Bank of Australia
  • Future-dated transfers require cleared funds to be available in your account at 11.59pm Melbourne time on the day before the scheduled transfer.

How to stop tax payments

You cannot stop an immediate payment or a payment to be processed today. You can stop future transfers by deleting the payment from your future payments and transfers summary. If you wish to delete a future dated tax payment, the request must be lodged with ANZ Internet Banking prior to 11.59pm Melbourne time the day before the payment date.

No. You do not need to register for tax payments. You need to ensure that you have:

  • A business account linked to your ANZ Internet Banking
  • A correct EFT code or Electronic Funds Transfer code, located on your tax statement.

The EFT code can be located directly above the bar code on your tax statement or may be sent to you separately.

  • If you cannot locate your EFT code, contact the Australian Taxation Office directly.

ANZ can investigate any tax payment on your account that you believe was paid using the wrong details.

  • If you wish to have this transaction investigated we will lodge a dispute with our EFT Disputes Department. They will contact the ATO on your behalf to investigate the transaction.
  • Transaction disputes can take up to 21 days to be resolved and the EFT Disputes team will advise you of the result in writing.

The following are the daily tax payment limits for ANZ Internet Banking:

  • Daily tax payment limit for business customers using ANZ Internet Banking is $100,000.
  • Daily tax payment limits for customers using ANZ Internet Banking for Business is $1,000,000.

Tax payments made from your ANZ Credit Card can be processed as either a purchase or cash advance.

  • You can stop future dated scheduled tax payment by deleting the payment from your future payments and transfers list.

If you wish to delete a future dated payment, the request must be lodged with ANZ Internet Banking prior to 11.59pm Melbourne time on the day prior to the payment date.

  • Tax payments requested before 6.00pm Melbourne time on a bank business day will be processed to your account on the same day.
  • Transfers requested after this time may be processed on the next bank business day.
  • The time that it takes for the Australian Taxation Office's account to be credited, will depend on the policy and systems of the Reserve Bank of Australia.
  • You must ensure that the EFT Code is correct or your payment may be unsuccessful or may be paid to an unintended account.
  • When you are transferring money it is your responsibility to ensure the details you provide are correct. We do not check payment details.

  • You cannot cancel or delete immediate payments or a payment to be processed today.
