ANZ Privacy Collection Notice

Online Applications

This notice describes how your personal information is collected and handled when you use our ANZ online application forms including where you interact with our live chat functionality.

Collection of your personal information

Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited ABN 11 005 357 522 (ANZ/We) collects your personal information when you enter information into an online application form even if the form is not submitted and when you interact with ANZ Live Chat.

We may collect this information from you directly or through service providers who collect your personal information on our behalf. We may also collect your personal information from third parties authorised to act on your behalf, credit reporting bodies or from other institutions or credit providers. If you are already an ANZ customer, ANZ may use and disclose the personal information that it already holds.

How ANZ may use and disclose your personal information

ANZ may use and disclose this personal information to:

  • assess and process your application (including, where applicable, credit assessment);
  • confirm your identity and conduct ongoing customer due diligence;
  • provide you with a product or service;
  • communicate with you (eg: contacting you about incomplete applications, answering any questions you may have or providing you with information you have requested (such as a quotation));
  • conduct marketing and promotional activities including telling you about (and enabling our alliance partners to tell you about) other products or services that may be of interest to you; 
  • conduct market research, analytics and product development;
  • perform administrative and operational tasks (eg: risk management, corporate governance, auditing, system development, testing and incident management, credit scoring, quality assurance, staff training/coaching, collecting debts and customer satisfaction research);
  • where applicable, provide you with, or enable you to access, loyalty partner products or services (eg: the Qantas Frequent Flyer program);
  • identify, prevent or investigate any fraud, unlawful activity or misconduct (or suspected fraud, unlawful activity or misconduct); and
  • establish your tax status under any Australian or foreign legislation, regulation or treaty or pursuant to an agreement with any tax authority.
    • ANZ may also use and disclose your information for other purposes required or authorised by law, including but not limited purposes permitted under the Consumer Data Right (CDR).

Without this information, ANZ may not be able to process your application, respond to your request or provide you with a product or service.

If you are approved for a product, our product terms and conditions contains further information about how your personal information will be handled during the course of your relationship with ANZ.

Who ANZ may disclose your personal information to

ANZ may disclose this personal information to:

  • other parts of ANZ and ANZ’s related entities;
  • your representative or any other party you have asked us to deal with as part of your application (eg: accountant or lawyer);
  • parties who introduce you to ANZ;
  • other lenders or credit providers;
  • your employer;
  • your referees;
  • joint borrower(s), account holder(s), intending guarantors/any person considering whether to offer security for your credit product or anyone you authorise to use or access your account;
  • parties that assist ANZ to identify, prevent or investigate any fraud, unlawful activity or misconduct (or suspected fraud, unlawful activity or misconduct);
  • organisations that are in arrangements with ANZ to jointly offer products and services and/or have an arrangement with ANZ to share information for marketing purposes;
  • agents, contractors and/or service providers; 
  • our professional advisors, auditors and insurers;
  • regulatory bodies, government agencies, law enforcement bodies and courts;
  • other parties we are authorised or required by law or court/tribunal order to disclose information to;
  • parties you consent to ANZ disclosing your information to (eg: if you ask us to disclose your information to a third party as part of the Consumer Data Right (CDR) or Open Banking. For more information on the CDR/Opening Banking at ANZ, visit www.anz.com.au/datasharing; and
  • any other parties we inform you about including in our product terms and conditions booklet;

Marketing

ANZ may use your personal information to tell you about other products or services that may be of interest to you. Where you do not want ANZ to tell you about other products or services that may be of interest to you, you may opt out at any time by calling 13 13 14. When you are an ANZ customer and registered for ANZ Internet Banking or the ANZ App, you can also opt out through those channels.

Credit Reporting

If you apply for credit or offer to act as a guarantor, ANZ may also disclose your personal information to credit reporting bodies including information about your request for credit, the credit limit sought, your other credit liabilities, repayments and defaults. Information about credit reporting, including the name and contact details of these credit reporting bodies, when information will be included in your credit report and your rights to manage, raise concerns, access or correct your credit-related personal information is available at https://www.anz.com.au/privacy/centre/credit-reporting/. Tax File Numbers

If you are applying for an interest-bearing account, you may wish to provide ANZ with your Australian Tax File Number (TFN), TFN exemption code or Australian Business Number (for business accounts). Do not provide your TFN if you are applying for an account that is not-interest bearing. You are not obliged to provide your TFN and declining to quote your TFN is not an offence. However, if you choose not to provide it, ANZ is required by law to deduct resident withholding tax, generally at the highest marginal tax rate, and any applicable government levies from interest payments and pay this money to the Australian Tax Office (ATO). ANZ is authorised by taxation law to collect your TFN to determine if you are subject to withholding tax on any interest payments and for reporting on such matters to the ATO. ANZ will not use your TFN for any other purpose.

Before you provide us with personal information about someone else, we require that you show them a copy of this notice so that they can understand how ANZ intends to handle their personal information.
